Life: A Meaningful Experience

Hello! Welcome to my first blog. To give you a very brief introduction about me (or you can look at my page: Procarb in the 21st). some things that I love are running and food. That's ordinary, but one thing that sets me apart is that I don't have many friends, and perhaps none at the moment. I grew up speaking Malaysian Chinese, with my English being just average. As I find it difficult to express myself through words, I decided to give writing a try. Definitely a big challenge, but here I go!

Life: A Meaningful Experience

Why exactly do we work

To appreciate and honour our ancestors, we continue to live their mysteries and achievements, finding ways to contribute to this world. In the process, we have burned ourselves out several times. We find ourselves drowning in a state of enervation every single day after work, overwhelmed by the sisyphean workload that we rushed through just to meet datelines, or over-stimulated by the sea of passengers in the same cabin. The powerless us might be dragged to wake up, work, and repeat, it's no fun. But is it all that meaningless?

Life can be found no where else in this entire universe. So let's live it to our fullest. People define life as a journey, a mystery, and a chance to find success. To me, it is an experience, filling up pages of the very fictional book of our own. When we are busy, we may be unaware of our emotions. Looking back, we actually did something. And that is a contribution, to both the society and ourselves. That experience is invaluable, affirming us that we have done something. That's great! Keep going, and make our lives filled with experiences, whether positive or negative, adding them to our life story.

The tips to adopt 🕮

Most importantly, we must know how to accept life as it goes.

"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment"        -buddha

1) Live in the present

The present is the moment you have control of. Start by acknowledging your contribution to the task at hand, and delve deeper about the details. Whether you are solving a problem, striving to meet a sales target, or even observing others when there are no clients or customers approaching, ask yourself: Why are you doing this task? What are you trying to achieve? The answer may be simple. You are solving the problem due to interest. You are trying to hit a sale because you need to make a living. You are examining others to feel their internal state of emotions. In other words, empathizing with them. By analysing the reasons behind your actions, it would be easier to discover who you are and your goal in life.

2) Learn to ignore

With this said, I don't mean ignoring everything around you. Instead, it means letting go of the negativity others direct at you. It could be a dissatisfied comment thrown at by your hiring manager, a betrayal message sent from a friend dear to you, or even a complaint made by a passer-by who refuse to look into the situation. It is important to discern which criticisms are worth considering, and which are not. If your actions are unintentional or despite your best effort, there is simply nothing to worry about or dwell onto because that criticism does not define you.

3) Know what you love🍀

It is important to have an interest, especially in this fast paced, pressure-cooker society. An interest would be something that keeps you entertained while soothing yourself from the comprehensiveness of this world. As a nature lover, I go for frequent pre-sunrise jogs and leaf-picking for artwork creation. An absolute money-free recreational activity. (I'm proud of it haha)

4) Take risks

Life in a comfort zone can be dull, nothing nerve-wrecking nor exciting to look forward to. Start taking different routes and experience more! Try other coffee brands, cycle to work instead of taking buses, or even talk to a colleague whom you have never really gotten the chance to know. Changing your usual routine can be challenging, but it can broaden your vision of the world and help you discover new things, while the earth offers new aspects to your advantage!

5) Engage in a social group

Finding people with similar interests and worldviews can be made easy online. However, in the physical world, we hinder ourselves from opening up due to the fear of getting invalidated. This mindset leads us to confine ourselves and keep feelings in. Let's change that. If we all could open up and share our feelings, views and interests with one another in the physical reality, the world would be a much better place.
